13B and 20B Rotary T56 Magnum swap kits for the FD3S - Updates

After test fitting a Tremec Magnum-F, along with some other R&D on the FD3S rotary chassis, I have updated my current rotary T56 Magnum kits to now only use the manual version bellhousing going forward.

The manual version bellhousing uses an FC3S starter, which mounts rearward towards the transmission. This setup works better for all applications and makes it simpler to manage on my end. This also was done out of necessity, due to the most 20B swaps engine mounts not allowing the automatic starter to fit at all.

The manual version bellhousing will fit both an auto rear plate or manual rear plate, so it only makes sense to do one kit.

The only downside to this style kit is the fact I have to take extra time to machine the magnum trans case to be able to fit the starter. This adds some extra labor costs, but in the end you end up with a beautiful bolt-in kit. See the pictures below showing where I machine the magnum case.

Here is a video of the installed transmission:

-----

The only bad news, is during this recent R&D I found that the new Magnum-F transmission does not fit well in the FD3S chassis behind the rotary motor. Unfortunately, even though the magnum-F shifter is further back, it still does not sit back far enough, and you would have to cut your tunnel at the front of the shifter hole to clear (see pic below of me trying to test fit a Magnum-F in the FD3S).

The downside to this is an extension shifter will still be required. There is no sense in paying the extra money for a Magnum-F, and then still pay for and have to run an extension shifter on top of that. It is cheaper to run the regular magnum and billet relocation shifter setup (Sikky).

Orange car comes back out swinging at FL2K

The Grannas Racing "Project H-Pattern" aka "Orange Man Bad" Supra came to play at TX2K with the goal of getting the car to leave the line more consistently. This consisted of adding a "long style" clutch to the mix. This is basically an adjustable clutch which allows you to adjust the weight and pressure on the clutch to allow it to slip on the line. I enlisted the help of Cale Aronson, a former Pro-Stock racer who now runs Black Magic clutches. Cale helped setup a new prototype 2JZ long-style clutch for this car as well as help dial it in at the event.

The plan was to use FL2K as a test session to get the car short tracking and dialed in for World Cup Finals - Import vs Domestic the end of October. Thanks to Chris Delgado's tuning and Cale's clutch knowledge after only 4 passes we got a new personal best of 1.21 sixty foot and a 5.0 eighth mile... And what is really crazy is, on that 5.0 1/8 mile it broke the suspension on the launch and i was dragging the drivers rear tire in the wheel well down to through 3rd gear. If you watch the video below you can see how the car was swaying up top due to pretty much no control over the drivers rear wheel. On the next pass the clutch was slipping hard up top, and we ended up not being able to get it done on both ends of the track, and ended up getting knocked out first round of eliminations.

I have always struggled with getting this car to leave, so now that we have that straightened out, I have really high expectations going forward. Can't wait to see what the car will do at WCF! See you there!

Big thanks to Bullet Race Engineering, Prospeed Autosports (Chris Delgado Tuned!), Brian Roche Racing Engines, The Driveshaft Shop, Headgames Motorwerks, GSC Cams, Black Magic Clutches, Precision Chassis, Liberty's Gears, Browell Bellhousings, Tremec Transmissions, Virtual Works, Powerhouse Racing, Schmuck Built LLC, Buck Performance, and anyone else I missed!

Grannas T56 Magnum GROUP BUY 2019 has started!

The 2019 Grannas Racing T56 Magnum transmission group buy has started, and this year it is featuring the new Tremec T56 Magnum-F. This puts the shifter in a more ideal location for almost all my swap kits (other than MK3 and rotary powered FD3S rx7's)

This means NO MORE RELOCATION SHIFTERS! Smoother shifting, and no additional shifter to purchase. This means my kit prices have DROPPED! So that is great for everyone!

Here is the link to the group buy page, any questions please contact me.

In the video below at about 4 minutes I show the magnum-F in my supra and show the shifter feel!

The White Monster 6-Speed Supra Returns - Rebuild Part 1 - Motor & Suspension

I did a video documenting the first part of the rebuild on the white Supra. I also included some video of some of my favorite passes at the beginning to build a little hype and a little inspiration for myself to get this thing ready.

Grannas Racing 3.4L Stroker 2JZ-GTE

In part one, I will be covering the assembly of the motor, cam install, and suspension install. The motor was built by Brian Roche Racing Engines, and consists of an Eagle 3.4 2JZ crank, Callies rods, and diamond pistons. The block is 3/4 filled with epoxy, which retains streetability as well as adds strength to the casting.

The suspension consists of my Ultimate IRS stock replacement chromoly tubular subframe, my adjustable lower control arm setup with eyelet shock mounts, strange double adjustable coilovers, bucks performance upper adjustable arms, and figs performance adjustable trac arms and figs toe arms. The rear end is a Driveshaft shop 9" setup.

MKV Manual transmission option coming soon!!?

I really think the MKV is going to have a manual option soon, direct from Toyota/BMW. While doing R&D on a T56 Swap kit (T56 Magnum) for the MKV Supra, see what I found that makes me believe a manual is coming in the below video! Don't forget to subscribe to my channel for future updates, and other Supra related content!

Also in this short video I install a Titan Motorsports downpipe and Protune piggyback ECU on my wife's MKV Supra Launch Edition. These two parts are super easy to install and add about 100WHP for less than $900. You can not beat that in bang for buck. These cars respond really well to light mods, and I wanted to give her a little more power to play with.

T56 Magnum 6-speed manual transmission swap for the MKV Supra

I think everyone knows me and the whole "not my supra" rants. You know I can not stand the fact that Toyota subcontracted out the iconic Supra name to be built based off a BMW Z4 chassis. Come on Toyota, do you really think a Z4 is the Supra equivalent!!??

T56 Magnum Swap Toyota Supra MKV Tremec Grannas Racing 6-speed Manual

Well, whatever! The deed is done, Toyota settled and now we have to settle (or move on - and I don't blame those that do!)... but it is too ironic that my wife actually loves these cars. I guess it is like they say "opposites attract"!

So... I figured what better way to make her happy and allow me to get closer to the enemy than buy one in the hopes of putting a man pedal in the car. The goal is to build a GR-Series 6-speed transmission kits for the car. Just like all the other chassis I offer swaps for the kit will be based on the Tremec T56 Magnum transmission, which is King of the street 6-speed boxes. Here's to hoping it is possible, as this is more difficult than most other cars, as the MKV is not offered from the factory as a manual transmission. So there is no bolt in clutch pedal option, no bellhousing option, and uncharted territory when it comes to the engine controls and electronics. It is a little bit daunting but I am hopeful this will come to fruition quickly!

Rotary motor T56 Magnum swap kit. For 13B or 20B FD3S RX7

Grannas Racing Rotary (13B/20B) Tremec 56 Magnum Swap Kit

Now available, my 13B/20B rotary kits are the latest additions to my popular lineup of GR-Series transmission kits for import cars. This kit is designed for the Mazda FD3S RX-7 but I do have plans to make a FC3S kit and a FB RX7 kit as well!

When i first tried to build this kit i discovered the quicktime bell was less than ideal. Their bellhousing was not deep enough for the GM input shaft, and it also had some other fitment issues. I worked with them to make changes and now we have a good bell that fits well.

These kits are designed to be a bolt-in affair, with only minor modifications needed to get the transmission installed. In the video below I try to show how really well this kit fits into the FD3S tunnel.

These Rotary 13B-20B GR700 transmission kits are available with the highest quality Aluminum or Carbon Fiber driveshafts from the Driveshaft Shop. These shafts include a Sonnax billet 1350 slip yoke. The driveshafts are available for both the stock FD rear as well as those running the Ford 8.8" rear end swaps.

Here is a video overview of the first kit installed in my personal 13B engine FD Rx-7.

BRZ and FRS Ford 8.8" Rear end swap kit - complete install guide

The Ford 8.8 is the strongest rear end option for the Subaru BR-Z and Scion FR-S

Grannas Racing is pleased to show you the lastest 8.8" Ford rear end swap kits available now for the Toyota 86 chassis.

These kits are comprised of The Driveshaft Shop axles, which include billet 110mm inner 8.8 stubs as well as the Grannas mounting kit for the IRS 8.8 rear. These rears come in two types in oem applications, an aluminum case and a cast iron case. The aluminum case can be found in the mustang cobra as well as lincoln mark viii, and the stronger, more rare iron case can be found in the 89-95 Ford Thunderbird.

Subaru BRZ Scion FRS Toyota GT86 Ford 8.8 IRS rear end swap kit

For drag and applications making extreme horsepower I recommend the thunderbird case (pictured above). It will run a little hotter due to less heat dissipation, but should not be really any worse than the stock rear, as they are also an iron case.

The Grannas kit uses a girdle that fits over the rear cover, which not only allows easy adaptation of the 8.8 case into the rear subframe mounting locations, but also adds strength to the case itself by reinforcing and keeping the case from spreading under heavy load. I use this same style cage on all of my kits, also available for the MKIV Toyota Supra, Lexus SC300/SC400, Lexus GS300/GS400, and Lexus IS300. It has been tested, and proven to hold lots of power.

The kit is now available for purchase. You can choose to build the rear diff yourself or have us build it for you to your specs.

If you are looking to build the rear yourself I also carry all the parts needed to do your rebuild, like the Truetrac LSD, ring & pinion gears, and master rebuild kits for both cobra/thunderbird cases and explorer cases.

Let me know if you have questions or need recommendations on a gear ratio for your setup. I would be happy to help you get you with the most ideal combination possible. Use email through my contact form, email is my preferred method of contact as I am normally working on many projects at once.

Here is the youtube video of the complete install:
